Chino Mine Proposes New North Lampbright Waste Rock Stockpile – Public Hearing scheduled for October 27
The Mining and Minerals Division will hold a public hearing on the proposed construction of a new North Lampbright Stockpile on Thursday, October 27 at 5:30 pmat the Grant County Commission Meeting Room, 1400 Highway 180 East, Silver City, NM.
According to Chino’s application, the proposed North Lampbright Waste Rock Stockpile will be contiguous to Chino’s existing Main Lampbright Leach Stockpile. The footprint of the new stockpile will cover approximately 187 acres, with 101 acres in new disturbances. The North Lampbright Stockpile capacity will be about 84 million tons of mine waste rock. The Closure/Closeout Plan for the new unit states that the waste rock material “may produce degraded water quality,” yet no liner is proposed to be installed to protect groundwater quality.
